We raise funds to give free tax advice to support vulnerable people in poverty

Story

KiliTax2022

A group of intrepid tax advisers and friends are taking on this incredible challenge in aid of the tax charities from 15 to 25 September 2022.

How you can sponsor us:

Please help the #KiliTax2022 team meet the £2 per foot climbed target to  support the tax charities, TaxAid and its sister charity Tax Help 4 older people

On this page you can sponsor the team as a whole.

Or if you would like to sponsor an individual in the team go to:

https://www.justgiving.com/team/KiliTax2020 and click on one of the links at the foot of the page.

Who are we doing this mammoth feat for?

Our group of dedicated tax professionals and friends are doing this in aid of the two UK tax charities, TaxAid and Tax Help for Older People. The sponsorship money will go to the charities' Bridge the Gap campaign, which is split equally between the two tax charities. The two tax charities help vulnerable people on low incomes with their tax issues. The people the tax charities help cannot afford to pay for professional advice See some examples here.

The tax charities are the only UK charities dedicated to providing free tax advice to vulnerable people on low incomes who need help to cope with the UK tax system and yet cannot afford to pay for the help they need and have nowhere else to turn.

TaxAid also supports two new UK university clinics , which are beginning to make impressive inroads into supporting people in their local communities with tax issues.

Those taxpayers seeking help tend to be at the most disadvantaged end of unrepresented taxpayers on low incomes. The need for such pro bono help has grown significantly since the charities' formation, due to changes in how people earn income and its tax treatment and due to the impact of Covid and the current cost of living crisis.

What does the challenge involve?

Our team have signed up to complete the #KiliTax2022 sponsored challenge to ascend Mount Kilimanjaro - with a height of nearly 6,000m it is the highest mountain in Africa and highest free-standing mountain in the world - from base to summit you have to ascend over 5.000m (nearly 17,000 feet). They are each spending months improving their fitness, culminating in the 11-day trip to Tanzania, ascending the mountain using the Lemosha route, from the tropical rain forest, through debilitating altitude sickness inducing heights to arctic conditions.

Covid led to the challenge being deferred for 2 years, but Action Challenge is ready to take the team up this formidable mountain to help meet our ultimate goal of raising vital money for the tax charities.

Who is paying for the trek?

The trekkers: we are each paying for our trip, so that all the fundraising, bar a small amount to Justgiving, goes to help the Tax Charities.

What's the target?

Overall £2/foot up that mountain!

Each trekker is aiming to raise at least £2,000 - ideally more - see their links below. In addition, the team as a whole is seeking general sponsorship from people and organisations connected to tax (isn't everyone!) making a target of £34,000.

You can sponsor the group at: www.justgiving.com/fundraising/KiliTax2022-Team

Each of the trekkers is making a significant personal commitment. Please consider either sponsoring one of us or the group as a whole.

Every pound that we raise will make a difference, a real difference, to distressed people who cannot afford a tax adviser and cannot get help elsewhere.
